NEWNESS UPDATE: Winter 2019 Test/Preview Candles

Well, fall was kinduva bust; it started off strong but started to fizzle and loss steam towards the end. That said, I didn't particularly have high hopes for the upcoming winter releases. Recently, test stores have released a preview of winter scents and folks on social media has been posting with breakneck speed. Having seen them, my suspicious were unfortunately correct - they're basic AF!

So at the moment, there are 3 collections testing/previewing. The first is a Home Traditions collection with all of the standard holiday candles we typically see year after. Right now, there's one "new" scent...

Chocolate Peppermint Cream - Crushed Peppermint Candles, Creamy Chocolate, White Sugar Crystals (this practically note for note with last years's Peppermint Brownie ; why BBW felt the need to change the name to something so generic is beyond me)

Returning scents include Vanilla Bean Noel, Winter Candy Apple, Twisted Peppermint, Tis the Season, Fresh Ballsack, Champagne Toast, Spiced Gingerbread, Frosted Coconut Snowball and Cherry Frost.

The next collection is more winter/outdoors inspired than holiday with illustrated labels that look like vintage Christmas cards

The one new scent is..

Winter White Woods - Glistening Icicles, Dried Cedarwood Bark, Spiced Sandalwood (as you know, there's a soap with the same name but with different notes {birch, juniper, vanilla) so I'm guessing this'll be another Crisp Morning Air type of situation with the candle smelling quite different from the soap)

Returning scents include Fresh Ballsack (a-f***ing again?), Frosted Cranberry, Spiced Apple Toddy, Hot Cocoa & Cream, Flannel, Maple Cinnamon Pancakes (aka Pumpkin Caramel Latte), Snowflakes & Citrus (aka Midnight Blue Citrus) and Frozen Lake

The last collection is a hodgepodge of randomly thrown together winter scents with packaging I can only describe as "Pier One Chic"

There are 2 new scents..

Grateful~ Apple Cardamom  & Crisp - Red Apple, Spicy Cardamom, Sugared Clove Buds, Graham Cracker Crumble (maybe failed test scent Holiday Apple Crisp from years ago?)

White Eucalyptus & Sage - White Eucalyptus, Mineral Sage, Frozen Pine (Winter Sage maybe? Perhaps Yuletide?)

Returning scents include Black Cherry MerNO, MaBLAHgony STANKwood, Winter, Marshmallow Fireside and Iced Cranapple

BORING, BORING, BORING!!! All of this crap is BORING!

Now granted, it's still early. We've got maybe a month or so til these hit nationwide. Latecomers can still be added. And this isn't all of the collections we'll be seeing for winter. I REPEAT - THIS ISN'T ALL OF THE COLLECTIONS WE'LL BE SEEING THIS WINTER!

HOWEVER, winter 2019 is NOT off to a good start. BBW is really pandering to the BB of America and those who waste money buying candles for the labels and not the scents. BBW isn't even trying..then again they don't have to, why should they when folks buy candles for the labels. If this is any indication of what the rest of winter is gonna look like, I'm good. I may skip winter altogther and for the first time not buy anything for Candle Day and SAS.

Comments

  1. Just based on that one scent note alone, "Glistening Icicles," I wouldn't be surprised if Winter White Woods turns out to be sparkling icicles. That's usually always in the winter collections in one form or another, and doesn't look like it is by that name this year and I can definitely see them sneaking it in that way. I really wonder when they're gonna give up the Twisted Peppermint/Winter Candy Apple/Vanilla Bean Noel thing. They're just not very good scents, they're extremely basic, and everyone's sick of them every Christmas. The only one that people ask for year-round is Vanilla Bean Noel, which is so close to the regular White Barn vanilla bean that I don't know why people insist on VBN instead.

  2. I was looking forward to Creamy Nutmeg this year, but it doesn't seem to becoming this time. Ugh. The Nutmeg Cupcake from years ago was so good, it was more of a nice perfume smell instead of a bakery type smell; but when it didn't return I could settle with Creamy Nutmeg being so similar. Is Spiced Gingerbread similar?
