NEWNESS UPDATE/NEW IDEA: Destinations 2015

So as yall as may or may not know, we're getting round two of Destination candles. Thankfully these don't have those god awful  cartoony "It's a Small World" labels.

Returning scents include Amsterdam (Flower Shop), Istanbul (Sensual Amber) and London (London Calling)

Some of the old Destinations are back with the same name but as newly repackaged scents...

New York is now Spiced Apple Toddy
Hawaii is now Honolulu Sun
Italy is now Tuscan Lemon Tart (no it's not Limoncello)

The remaining few are "new"

Swiss Alps = Ski Lodge
Caribbean = Pineapple Mango
Tahiti = Master Bath/Bergamot Waters

Anyhoo, so this is all well and good. Here's the problem...the Destination candles are being marketed as..wait for it...CHRISTMAS SCENTS!!!! They're being called "Destination: Holiday Edition", the pictures have various locales with either fluffy white snow or Christmas lights and on each candle is a sticker that says " Joy to the World"

*blank stare

First of all, we already have 4 holiday collections, do we honestly need another one?! Secondly a holiday themed Destinations collection is not an entirely bad idea..except they chose scents that aren't holiday-ish! Come on, two of the scents are Flower Shop and Honolulu Sun...really?!!

As usual, I have a better idea on what scents they should've used...

Amsterdam - Attention BBW..there are no flowers growing in Amsterdam during wintertime!!!
REPLACEMENT: Sleigh Ride (or Snow Day) - instead of a friggin floral, have a scent that makes you think of wintertime and snow and trees (and not goddamn Fresh Balsam)

Caribbean - Really BBW? Pineapple Mango? Really?! Desperation much?! Clearly y'all are grasping at straws
REPLACEMENT: Tropical Spice - rum and spice, what more could you ask for a trip to the Caribbean during the holidays

Hawaii - I know, you can't have a Hawaii named scent without it being tropical
REPLACEMENT: Vanilla Snowflake - yeah I know this is a stretch but its the only coconutty scent thats remotely holiday-ish

London - ya gotta have a tea scent for London
REPLACEMENT: Cinnamon Tea - it's basically London Calling with the lemon note toned down with lots of cinnamon and clove; that almost mulled spiciness is more in keeping with the holiday theme

Istanbul - odd choice for a holiday collection seeing as though most of the population is either Muslim, Jewish or Othodox Greek but hey let's run with it
REPLACEMENT: Morocco Market - ya get amber, ya get patchouli, ya get spices...it just smells all incensey and holy

Italy - I could be wrong but isn't lemons/lemon treats/limoncello a Sicilian thing, not so much Tuscan?! I could be wrong again but would lemons even be in season during the holidays?!
REPLACEMENT: Dolce - you can market it as a winter beverage or change the name to "Tiramisu", bam beloved Italian treat

New York - ya gotta have an appley scent cuz it's the Big Apple, get it?! *eyeroll
REPLACEMENT: Tis the Season - you get the apple note and the pine makes it Christmasy; think Christmas tree at Rockerfeller Center

Tahiti - Soooo, what the **** does Master Math/Bergamot Waters have to do with Tahiti?!!! I...just...CAN'T!!!! I would completely take this out of the equation; with Hawaii and Caribbean, we dont need more tropical locales
REPLACEMENT: Paris ~ Champagne Toast - Champagne is French after all and named after a region in France

Swiss Alps/Ski Lodge is the only scent in this lineup that even remotely makes sense, thus it can stay

Check out Lifeinsidethepage for pictures and most of these are already available on Ebay courtesy of fabulousthriftymomma

CANDLE RETROSPECTIVE: My Top Ten Fall Scents

"Should hot ass summers be forgot
and never brought to mind
Should hot ass summers be forgot
for it is autumntime!"
(I made that up myself lol)

HAPPY AUTUMN EQUINOX!!!

Well it is now officially fall and I could not be happier. What was a pretty blisteringly hot as balls summer (and that's comin from an ex-New Orleanian adapted to swampy humid sub tropic heat), I'm lookin forward to brisk crisp autumn days...although due to El NiƱo, it looks as though thi fall and winter are gonna be strikingly warm...though anything is better than 90 degree + heat..but I digress

I dunno about y'all but I'm ready to get my basic bitch on, tis the season after all. Bring on the foliage watchin, cider sippin, PSL chuggin, doughnut munchin, pumpkin carvin, apple pickin, sweater wearin and, most importatntly, candle burnin!

That said, let's talk about my favorite falls scents which have sorta changed over time, especially from when I first started this blog. So from least to all time fav....

10. Caramel Apple (2010?) - I first got this one during the 2012 June SAS and I loved it; I preferred it over Cider Lane which everyone was going apeshit for. You get sweet apple/pear notes with creamy yet surprisingly not cloying caramel. It also was very heavy on brown sugar and nutmeg. And it also almost had a slight nuttiness, like roasted peanuts. For some reason, the scent made me think of Halloween (more so than Pumpkin Carving and I would burn it as I was getting into my Halloween costume.) Sadly we haven't seen it since that SAS though it down sorta come back albeit watered down this past spring as Home ~ Sweet Caramel Comfort

9. Cranberry Woods (2009?) - This used to be in my top 5 fall favs. Unfortunately it seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. Lately I've found myself not missing it. Besides, the latest incarnations of it have been dramatically weak. However I do have enough fondess and reverence for it to keep it in my top 10. It's a nice change from all the apple and pumpkin scents we're bombarded with in fall. It's sweet without being cloying, spicy without being bakery and woodsy without being cologney. It makes me think of dark misty mysterious midnights during late autumn. I do hope BBW comes to their senses and brings this back.

8. Autumn Night (2014) - Say what you want, this was totally a repackage with a twist of Autumn Day, one of many Slatkin classics that have disappeared. Honestly I preferred AN over AD anyway. It's dark and rich, smoky and woodsy with a lil hint of spice. It had the exact same base notes of AD with added almost incense-like smokiness and intense cardamom. While AD definitely had an early morning walk on the farm vibe, AN was definitely a night time scent - you're out with your friends in front of the campfire chugging hard cider on an..AUTUMN NIGHT

7. Spiced Pumpkin Cider (2014) - So for a while my all time favorite apple/cider scent was Spiced Cider...which looking back was generic and craftstore smelling. I was a little disappointed that it didn't come back last year but I got over it when I sniffed SPC which in my opinion was so much better. Unlike SC, SPC smelled like legit cider. I had a little earthy pumpkiness with a splash of bright zesty mandarin, I'm a little sad it didn't come back this year

6. Porchside Pumpkin (2015) - I've said it before and I'll say it again..I'm not a fan of pumpkin scents although this year I've been coming around. And I gotta say this scent has kinda gotten my on the pumpkin bandwagon. Get this..it's a pumpkin scent that's NOT BAKERY...MINDBLOWN. You get deep earthy pumpkin, the only spice you get is cardamom...maybe ginger, sweet aromatic wood and the slightest hint of floral. And it's kinda cologney, y'all know how I feel about cologney scents. It's "like a sexy man in a pumpkin patch"

5. Cinnamon Sugared Doughnuts (2011) - OMG..CSD!!! Like pumpkin, I was not a fan of bakery scents at all...but CSD made me change my tune. It's crazy how authentic and genuine CSD is; it really smells like fresh cake doughnuts right out the grease and rolled around in cinnamon sugar. For whatever reason BBW started selling CSD in the spring; in my mind it'll always be a fall scent. We also got imposters lately, Cider Donuts and Pumpkin Sugared Doughnuts but try as you might, you just cant replace good ol CSD!

4. Sweater Weather (2012) - a fall scent with no apple, no pumpkin, no spice yet still captures the essence of fall?! Yes please! I admit when I first smelled SW I did not get the hype at all! However, once I lit it..FALLGASM! It's so fresh and crisp and brisk; it's like you're walking around on cool autumn afternoon in your favorite sweater. It's always makes me think of walking around Central Park in autumn. It could be my nose playin tricks on me but I feel like the '14 and '15 versions are different, almost sweeter and not as intense. And I do wish they would stop with orange/yellow piss wax color. The '12 version is the bomb diggity!

3. Apple Crumble (2011) - why oh why does BBW refuse to bring this back, it's perfection! Granted they bring it back for SAS but still! It's one of the best apple scents on the market and it's bakery without being diabetes inducing. And it's the perfect example of what I like to call "warm blanket throw". It's sweet, its' warm, it's comforting..just autumntastic!

2. Black Pepper Bergamot (2012) - seriously y'all, do I need to go on about this damn scent?! Everybody who knows me knows this is my bae and my love for it runs deep. I'm currently burning one now and I have one more left and that makes me sad. For reasons I can not for the life of me understand, they refuse to bring this back and instead continue to push Mahogany Stankwood and Autumn Sky down our throats. For those who have had the good fortune to sniff this, just try to describe this scent without using the word sexy. It's warm, it's inviting, it's chic, it's sophisticated, it's high end, it's sensual. And it has a fall vibe with nary an apple or pumpkin note and there's spice but it's not cinnamon/nutmeg/cardamom. *SIGH

1. Leaves (2008?) - it is simply not fall without Leaves, period! Leaves is the only candle thoughout the course of the year that I HAVE to have; fall simply can't begin without it. I can't even fathom a fall without Leaves; I was kinda freakin out this year cuz for awhile no one was talking about it or saw it stores but thankfully it appeared and no one was more relieved than I. Leaves just has everything - apple cider, cinnamon, cinnamon, mandarin, berries. It really is fall in a jar!

Honorable mentions include Mountain Leaves, Oakmoss & Vetiver, Autumn, Pumpkin Carving, Pumpkin Caramel Latte, Tailgate, Cranberry Pumpkin and Pumpkin Pie

NEWNESS UPDATE: Winter 2015 Test Scents *UPDATED*

So winter scents have started appearing in test stores... Oy vey! I predicted that the holiday scents were going to be as lackluster as the fall scents were and that we were gonna see a lot random and bizarre repackages...and I was right! I've talked with a handful of IG buddies who saw and sniffed all these in stores and told me what they thought these were repackages of. So, here they are...

Alpine Cheer - Add cheer to your winter with the crisp fragrance of mountain balsam, cedarwood bark and snow white cranberry (this could possibly be either good ol Winter Garland or Apple Spruce aka White Barn Christmas aka Apple Garland)

Winter Sun - A blend of sparkling citrus, vetiver leaves and creamy musk inspired by glowing sunlight breaking through snowy trees (I thought this was gonna be either Summer Bonfire or failed test scent Vetiver from '12 but nope. Apparently its very similar to Coastal Sun and Pomelo Paradise...dafuq?!!)

Returning scents include  Winter, Fresh Balsam, Fresh Sparkling Snow, Mahogany Teakwood, Salted Caramel (Salty Caramel), Vanilla Snowflake and Frosted Cranberry

Holiday Traditions
Dashing Through the Snow - Breathe in the crisp cool air of a holiday sleigh ride with a blend of green balsam, wintry musk and the jingle of sparkling citrus. (no word on this yet, possibly Alpine Frost? Holly Wreath?)

Jingle All the Way - Jingle Bells will ring and make spirits bright with this merry blend of mandarins, apples and coconut cream. (First of all can I just say how sick and tired I am of coconut scents, especially in fall and winter! Anyway, apparently this is Oahu Coconut Sunset or close to it, the jury is still out)

Sparkling Sugar Plum - Visions of this beautiful blend of sparkling sugarplums, apple blossoms an a touch of mint will dance in your head. (So this isn't apparently Candied Sugar Plum from '11 but is possibly Pink Apple Punch...ugh! Or possibly Snow Apple Mint?)

Returning scents include Evergreen, Tis the Season, Twisted Peppermint, Vanilla Bean Noel, Winter Candy Apple Marshmallow Fireside and Sweater Weather (dafuq?!!!)

Celebrations
Cranberry Sugar Cookie - Fill the holiday cookie jar with the sweet scent of ruby red cranberries, fresh creamery butter and cinnamon sugar. (total repackage of Cranberry Pumpkin)

Golden Peach Sparkle - Here's a pretty blend of festive greenery, creamy vanilla and juicy peach that's perfect for every holiday party. (obvious repackage of Market Peach)

Snowflakes and Spruce - Kick off the holiday party season with an outdoorsy blend inspired by snowcapped spruce and sweetened by a touch of creamy vanilla (no word on this one but I'm really hoping that this is Snow Day but it might be failed test scent Frosted Pine or possibly Pinecone/Autumn Snow)

Pomegranate Prosecco Punch - Ring in the holidays with this bubbly and bright blend of Italian Prosececo, juicy pomegranate and a splash of pear. (At first I thought this might be Wine Down ~ Pomegranate Sangria but this is probably gonna wind up being a renamed Cranberry Pear Bellini)

Returning scents include Black Tie, Champagne Toast, Spiced Apple Toddy, Cinnamon Caramel Swirl and Sparkling Icicles

White Barn
Noel ~ Silver Pine and Cedar - Create a beautiful home for Christmas with this aromatic blend of pine needles, cedar and juniper sprigs (I'm really hoping this is Sleigh Ride from back in the day. This could also be Frosted Tree from even further back in day)

Peace ~ Iced Vanilla Woods - Enjoy a peaceful holiday with this soothing blend of sweet vanilla, smoldering woods and iced lavender (At first I thought this might be Lavender Vanilla but my girl on IG, @theshow78, said that she smelled mint and we theorized that this might actually be the original Peace aka Lavender Market)

Wish ~ Christmas Spice - A warm inviting scent made from classic Christmas spices - cinnamon sticks, ground clove and nutmeg that's sure to become a tradition in your home (This has to be Cinnamon & Clove Buds..which I looooaaaathe!)

Joy ~ Peppermint Marshmallow - Indulge in the fragrance of fluffy vanilla marshmallows, which are full of holiday sweetness and Peppermint Joy. (by all accounts this is the same Peppermint Marshmallow people knew and loved back in the day)

Celebrate ~ Merry Cookie - The scent of classic holiday cookies made from vanilla, butter and sparkling sugar will instantly evoke warm Christmas memories (duh, Merry Cookie)

Merry ~ Holiday Mulled Cider - Tis the Season to be merry and enjoy mulled cider with a blend of holiday spice, crisp apples and creamy birchwood (Spiced Wreath from '13)

Welcome ~ Cinnamon Pinecone - The fragrance of a bountiful basket of spiced pinecones., cinnamon bark and balsam branches set out for the holidays (maybe Winter Wonderland from '11?)

Fireside has recently been included as "Comfort"

Just based on the names, notes and my IG buddies' opinions, I'm not impressed with these at all and will only be getting a few of these once they're released wide. It seems most folks on social media are being bamboozled by the labels and such while the rest of us hardcore candle connoisseurs are scratchin our heads in disbelief and confusion. I've said it before and I'll say it again..I just CAN'T!!!

If you're on IG, check out @theshow78, @tinybubblesfloating, @iambored24 @_fromvictoria and @bathbodywrks_lover23 for pictures

And, as usual, most of these are available on Evilbay courtesy of makingsunshinehappen and papaandmamawsplace

NEW IDEA OF THE DAY: Fall '15 Scents (And What I'd Replace em With)

So as I've stated in past posts, I think this fall lineup is a hot mess. In a combination of annoyance and boredom, I thought if by chance I to to work in BBW's marketing department and had the opportunity to redo this fall lineup, what would I keep and what would I replace?

Let's start with the pumpkin collection

Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin - So as everyone knows I LOATHE SCP with a white hot passion so of course this would be the first scent to go (and cause thousands of basic bitches across the country to spontaneously combust) Here is my issue - it doesn't belong in this collection, it's not a bakery/confectionary/beverage scent; no (normal) person just eats pumpkin pulp even if there is sweet cinnamon involved. And now that we have a actual genuine pumpkin pie scent, there is absolutely no need to have SCP in the lineup at all

REPLACEMENT: Roasted Pumpkin Butter - this scent has failed twice. So many fall test scents have become staples now ie Sweater Weather and Blueberry Pumpkin Patch. That said, give this SOB a change. You can even change the name, lord knows just something as simple as changing the name can make a scent popular overnight, ie Black Tie.

Caramel Pumpkin Swirl - This is yet another fall scent that I loathe; it's a lazy uninspired scent created strictly for mass appeal.

REPLACEMENT: Pumpkin Cinnamon Buns - last fall, this scent had so much potential. The cold throw was out of this world but man oh man once you lit it.. just a hot waxy chemically plastic burnt mess! If the warm throw was fixed, this scent would be a hit! And having this scent just makes sense, it's a popular confection especially in the fall and everybody loves a good cinnamon bun. Who the hell just eats cinnamon and caramel?!

Pumpkin Sugar Cookie - Ok this is a cute scent but nothing remotely exciting

REPLACEMENT: Pumpkin Sugared Doughnuts - ok despite my extreme disgust of this scent, even I can't deny that it was insanely popular and it's just stupid not to bring this back after so much success. Just fix the toejam issue!

Pumpkin Milkshake - Say what you want, this was a slap in the face! This was/is one of the most blatant and downright insulting repackages in BBW history! Shame on you BBW!

REPLACEMENT: Creamy Pumpkin - CP just makes more sense! Hello, it's cream with an actual pumpkin/spice note! Even if you wanna change the name to Pumpkin Milkshake, go for it! Makes a helluva lot more sense than friggin stank ass Vanilla Snowflake.

Coconut Pumpkin - I do not understand BBW's obsession with coconut scents and their insistence of placing a coconut scent in every season despite having an overabundance of it in the summer.

REPLACEMENT: Blueberry Pumpkin Patch - it was an underground hit back when it was test scent and ridonkulously popular when it went wide the following year. It's just stupidity not to have such a popular around. I would change the name though - Berry Pumpkin Granola or Blueberry Pumpkin Muffin or Blueberry Pumpkin Bread (actually if I really had it my way I would take "pumpkin" out of the equation and call it Spiced Blueberry Muffin)

Cranberry Pumpkin, Pumpkin Pie and Pumpkin Spiced Cheesecake can stay

And the Harvest collection

Mahogany Teakwood - Ugh, I am absolutely OVER MT; it is one of the most over rated scents in BBW history and it is shoved in our faces every season every year...it ain't all that!

REPLACEMENT: Mountain Leaves - this is a super sexy failed test scent from '11. On a basic level, you could describe it as "cologne" however it was more sophisticated and high end than MT could ever be. It was fresh, cool, woodsy, outdoorsy, rustic and manly; it was like you were walking thru the woods on a brisk autumn day with a hot lumberjack.

Pumpkin Apple - This is by far one of the lamest and basic fall scents ever

REPLACEMENT: Pumpkin Spiced Cider - this scent was amazing, this was the most spot on cider drink that BBW has ever made; even better than the original Spiced Cider.

Buttercream Frosting - LAME LAME LAME!!! Again, for life of me, I can not understand BBW's obsession with Frosted Cupcake and buttercream scents in general. And what the **** does this scent have to do with fall?!

REPLACEMENT: Cinnamon Sugared Doughnuts - one of the most popular fall bakery scents EVER (despite it all sudden becoming a spring scent, it is and forever will be a fall scent). It is just pure insanity not to have this scent around And I guarantee you if you had a contest as to which was more popular, there would be no comparison - CSD would win by a landslide! And please use the original CDS, not that White Barn Market crap!

Red Radiant Maple - I don't understand this scent, what kinda of scent is it supposed to be? What's the image it's supposed to convey? From the name you would think outdoorsy, woody with a maple note? Nope, apples and marshmallow....dafuq?

REPLACEMENT: Cider Lane - just bring back a classic. Everybody goes apeshit for this scent. Apple, cinnamon, caramel, that's all you need! Or if y'all really wanna go the woodsy route, I would bring back Applewood Bonfire. I wasn't a big fan but a lot of people were. I would just fix that apple note so it wouldn't smell so generic.

Brown Sugar Allspice - I just don't see the point of this scent. Futhermore, it has apples and an apple pie on the label...yet it's not an apple scent.

REPLACEMENT: Apple Crumble - best apple scent EVER!!! I never understood BBW never brought this scent back except for SAS. If I was in charge this would be a staple that I'd bring back every single fall

Apple Picking - this just smells like every other greem apple scent that's been on the market

REPLACEMENT: I would go in either two directions. I could go the mainstream way and bring back an apple scent like Autumn Apple. Or could go in the different direction and bring back Pear from Fresh Picked Spring '13. I LOVED that scent; in my opinion it was the most spot on pear scent that BBW ever made.

Lakeside Sunrise - I really wanted to like this one cuz sooo many people but I can't make myself do it, it's just too generic and mainstream smelling for me.

REPLACEMENT: Boathouse Row - now this scent nosegasmic! So much more sophisticated and high end than LS. And because it's a combination of watery notes and woods, it could in theory convey the same picture as LS. I guarantee that people would go nuts for this bad boi!

Of course Leaves, Autumn, Sweater Weather and Flannel can stay

And now the White Barn collection. All the scents in this collection are generic and overrated. I would replace them with scents that truly captures fall; a nod to Slatkin's Perfect Autumn Collection back in the day

Farmstand Apple - Autumn Apple

Fresh Balsam - Forest Trail

Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin - Heirloom Pumpkin

Vanilla Bean - either Creamy Nutmeg or Nutmeg and Spice or Kitchen Spice

I would also add Cranberry Harvest to the mix

And lastly the ombre collection. I don't really understand the thought process behind the scent selections for this collection; there really seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why these scents were chosen. I would replace this whole collection with scents that are high end and complex, fancy fall scents.

Autumn - I don't see the need to have two separate Autumns
REPLACEMENT: Cranberry Woods - I REFUSE to let CW disappear, it's too amazing of a fall scent to let go. And compared to a lot of fall scents we see nowadays, this one of the few sophisticated and complex Slatkin era scents that we have

Sweater Weather - again I simply don't see the need to have two of this.

REPLACEMENT: Pinecone/Autumn Snow - I never got to smell this; it failed twice - once as Pinecone in fall '13 and again that following winter as Autumn Snow. I don't really know why it failed cuz the notes sound really elegant. If people can get into scents like Fresh Balsam, Evergreen, Sweater Weather, Snowed In, then they can get a scent like Pinecone/AS..I say give it a chance

Leaves - again, why do we need two of this?!

REPLACEMENT: Spiced Cider - this was a fall staple until last year. Bring it back!

Beautiful Day - I don't f***ing care if it has apple in the notes, BA is NOT fall scent. I repeat..BA IS NOT A F***ING fall scent

REPLACEMENT: Autumn Day - not Autumn Night, but Autumn Day. Autumn Night had very intense incense like smokiness and had a nighttime in the woods type vibe. Autumn Day was less intense, no smokiness, no spice and definitely had a daytime feel to it, like a brisk walk around the farm on crisp autumn morning. Again, like CW, it's another sophisticated high end Slatkin era staple that has disappeared...not on my watch

Autumn Sky - generic generic generic

REPLACEMENT: Black Pepper Bergamot - do I really have to say anything about this scent?! Everyone knows my love for this scent runs deep and I would use any excuse to bring it back. It's sophisticated, it's classy, it's lush, it's sensual, it's masculine...I can't gush about this scent enough!

Golden Cinnamon - this is ok, nothing exciting

REPLACEMENT: Home/Caramel Apple - there's just something about this scent that's so cozy and comforting; it's a perfect wrap up in blanket and read a book type autumn scent

Toasted Vanilla Caramel - not impressed with this at all. Furthermore, the name is so misleading

REPLACEMENT: Smores..not Summertime Smores...Smores...again another Slatkin classic that has disappeared. This scent just makes sense and captured the sweet ooey-gooey decadence that TVC was trying to achieve

NEW IDEA AND RANT OF THE DAY: Dog Days of Summer Candles

I meant to post this yesterday buuuuuut yesterday was my BIRTHDAY!!!!!

The dog days of summer have been over and Labor Day has already passed. And even though the autumn equinox is still a couple of weeks away, summer is pretty much over. People have been burning fall candles for well over and month and we're supposed to seeing more fall scents come our way (supposedly) this week. And the winter holiday scents are gonna be testing soon...I'm sure most you have heard about that debacle. I can't even think about all of that cuz Im still in summer mode.

That said, it would be nice if there was a small summer themed collection of scents for those of us who love fall but just aren't ready for fall yet. It doesn't have to be anything new, not necessarily beachy, definitely nothing tropical

For this collection, I nominate the following...

Summertime Soda - I will never understand why this was never brought back despite it being an underground hit. A lemon lime soda scent is perfect for summer

Melon - why have we never had a watermelon scent for summer. In the past, this scent has failed twice and I never understood why

Vanilla Firewood - only because it smelled just like barbeque sauce

Coastal Sun - to me, CS is summertime in a jar. It's bright, it's fresh, it's sunny, just perfect!

Ice Cream Shop - I'm not a big fan of this scent but it makes sense to have an ice cream scent for a dog days of summer collection. It definitely needs to be tweaked though; add more chocolate and vanilla to make smell more like Neapolitan ice cream or maybe banana or fudge like banana split/sundae

Poolside - the original Poolside aka Suntan. This smelled like straightup legit authentic suntan lotion

Beach Day - I just love this scent for summer. Probably because it's... cologney. But there is something summery and beachy about this scents - you smell the saltiness of sea and in the seabreeze, you feel the sand between your toes, the sun on your skin and watching hot tanned guys in speedos

WALK 'N' SNIFF: White Barn Fall Exclusives Part Deux

So my bf's parents are in town and one of the places that we went was GSP...and you know I had to bring them to WB. This go-round the store had all the scents that it didnt have the last time I was there

Golden Cinnamon - well this one isn't an exclusive anymore as it has appeared online already. For whatever reason the last time I was at WB, they had this hidden in the drawers. Anyhoo this one is a little strange as different people have been smelling different things. Some swear that they smell a little hint of Cider Lane while others get more French toast or Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. I got..wait for it...Summer friggin Bonfire! Now I totally got the cinnamon - its borderline red hot spicy but still sugary; think Cinnamon and Clove Buds mixed with Cinnamon Sugar Doughnuts. However underneath all that cinnamoniness I kept getting Summer Bonfire. I even smelled different ones just to make sure but nope, I kept getting the same thing. It is possible there may be different batches of this one. And speaking of batches...

Red Radiant Maple - as y'all may or may not know, there were two different batches of this one - one smelled exactly like the notes (Marshmallow Fireside with apple) and the other smelled terrible. Now the RRM I smelled was altogether different and didn't smell like either of those so was there a 3rd batch? I'm not sure. I was talking with my IG buddy @whitebarncandlefan and he smelled the various versions of RRM and told me what he thought this new one smelled like and I absolutely agree - it smells like Home ~Sweet Caramel Comfort aka watered down Caramel Apple. I didn't get apple or woods or marshmallow just pear and caramel. I don't really get what this scent is supposed to be or what it is trying to convey; what does apple and marshmallow or rather caramel and pear have to do with maple trees?! This should not have gone wide!

*so I recently went back to WB and the store seemed to have brought back the original batches. Some of them of them maple syrupy and chemically and burnt and wrong and some smelled like a surprisingly yummy mix of apple/pear and marshmallow

Apple Picking - I initially assumed that this was a candle version of one of my favorite fall soaps Weekend Apple Picking..which why the HELL isn't this soap back this year?! I'm not sure if this assumption is true but it does smell similar to the soap in the sense that they both smell very candy-ish. AP smells almost exactly like sour apple Now&Laters or Laffy Taffy. It has that same Sour Apple Pucker aspect that all of the other green apple scents have. It also has a fake chemical green apple scented shampoo/conditioner vibe that last fall's Green Apple Orchard had, but this one smells much better. I daresay that to me this is best smelling of all of the green apple scents however that said that doesn't make that is any good or exciting. It's just very very blah!

Porchside Pumpkin - omg...O..M..G! Holy f***balls!!! Finally something this fall that gave me a nosegasm! Now as you know my WB didn't have this originally so I bought it on Evilbay and I dont regret it cuz it's that damn good! Luckily my store has em now cuz I will be stocking up. I am in LOVE with this scent...and it's a pumpkin scent of all things! It's a pumpkin scent that's not bakery *cue the basic bitches of America's heads exploding. And it's cologney *cue everybody elses' heads exploding. To quote my gurl on IG @_fromvictoria "it smells like a sexy guy in a pumpkin patch" You do get a deep earthy yet sweet pumpkin note a la Pumpkin Carving with possibly some brown sugar, nutmeg and ginger. There is also some aromatic woods that give it that manly cologney vibe - mahogany or oak, definitely either sandalwood and/or cedarwood. There is also the slightest hint of floral in the background but I don't know what that floral is. Shawn aka Hearthandsoul theorized that that floralness might be chrysanthemums... makes to me. To me this smells like a high end cologne I would wear in the fall. It is also smells ever so slighyly craft store/Michael's ish, like a fancy pumpkiny fall potpourri. PP is like Autumn Day's twin brother, like a warmer spicier version of it. This in my most humble opinion is the best new fall scent to come out this season but alas because it's not a basic mainstream cupcake scent or latte or cookie or pie, I could see a lot of people not liking this thus staying an exclusive but honestly I think this a nice compromise between sweet and outdoorsy. If you live near a WB, definitely give this a sniff cuz it's pretty amazing!

RANT OF THE DAY: Go home BBW, You're Drunk!

Is it just me or is BBW doing some really weird, random and downright bizarre things lately? Granted BBW has been doing out the box things since Slatkin left but I feel like lately it's gotten worse. And so far this fall season has been chockfull of several wtf moments.

First of all, the fall candles came out WAAAAAAYYYY too early, like earlier than usual and there was no rhyme or reason as to what was being released first; stuff just showed up randomly both in stores and online. I never understood why the various collections don't appear separately and in order - for example, Wine and Cork in August, then Harvest in September, then Pumpkin and Halloween stuff in October...nope not so much. Then you had all these various scents available, but no sale so nobody was buying anything. Which leads me to my next point...

BBW thru a curveball and released the new and improved Aromatherapy candles and got everyone and their grandma's excited. And people, myself included, were waiting patiently for a sale..cuz seriously, who pays full price for a candle?! Finally there's a flash $12 sale...and the friggin aromatherapy candles disappeared!!! Everybody was royally pissed off; the BBW Facebook and IG page were blowin up with an explosion of complaints. Their excuse was that the aromatherapy candles were "testing" and only a certain amount was made and released and that suddenly on the day of the sale there were no more and there weren't going to be anymore. Of course they all returned mysteriously about 2 days after the sale (although now they've disappeared again). Bullshit much BBW?!

Why were they testing? With the exception of Eucalyptus Tea, none of those scents were new! And why hasn't there been online testing before? Why weren't any of the "WB exclusives" online to test? Why haven't past failed test unicorns like Lavender Marshmallow or Malted Pistachio Truffle or Chocolate Bacon Cupcake tested online before?

And speaking of exclusives, we still don't have a clear picture as to what are exclusives and what will be in all stores. Lakeside Sunrise was supposed to be an exclusive and now it's online and in stores. Same with Spiced Pumpkin Cheesecake as well as Red Radiant Maple. Brown Sugar Allspice has been making random appearances in BBW stores and supposedly Cranberry Pumpkin will be available as well. So that leaves Porchside Pumpkin, Apple Picking (3wick), Coconut Pumpkin, Pumpkin Milkshake and Pumpkin Sugar Cookie. Why do you need that many exclusives? In my humble opinion, if you're gonna do exclusives then there should be 1 exclusive per collection. There needs to be more consistency as to what should stay an exclusive and what will be released wide. It's not fair to those who don't live near a WB.

And speaking of consistency or rather the lack thereof, what's with the "scents coming out after Labor Day" debacle? The majority of your scents are already out so what's the point?! You know people are clamoring for Pumpkin Cupcake and Pumpkin Caramel Latte and Pecan Pumpkin Waffles, why make em wait?! And apparently there's product issues with some of those..what are yall doing that there are product issues? First it was Sunkissed Days and Beach Breeze and now PPW, PC AND PCL. And there were two different batches of Red Radiant Maple, one of which supposedly smelled terrible and the other completely different. Get it to-damn-gether already!

*sigh Y'know, I've never been a fan of the all pumpkin collections and I still fervently believe that it's been done to death - I think 3 years back to back is enough. Last year the collection as a whole was at it's best - nice packaging, beautiful labels and a variety of relatively new and interesting scents - Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow (which has become a fan fav), Pumpkin Sugared Doughnuts, and my personal fav Spiced Pumpkin Cider..which except for VPM, none of those returned. Instead we got a lot of random ish and all of them repackages..the worse offender being Pumpkin Milkshake, a repackage of a WINTER scent with no pumpkin or spice in it all. The only real new scents Pumpkin Sugar Cookie and Cranberry Pumpkin and even those smell vaguely familiar.

Also speaking of pumpkin, there was that ridiculous and borderline insulting $15 sale for Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin..really?! 15 whole dollars..for SWEET CINNAMON PUMPKIN?! REALLY?!!! And what made it worse were all of the basic bitches of America going nuts over this on social media and saying it was the best thing ever... "what a deal"..."now fall can begin"...WHATEVER! And now the Cork and Vine candles are $15..that is neither deal or bargain. I foresee a price hike in the near future, 2for25 and eventually 2for30 and when that happens, I will be officially done with BBW!

Lastly, my most important point and my most major grievances. Frankly the fall scents this year are LAME! It sucks cause usually fall is when BBW shines; you know when fall comes around that you're guaranteed to get some good stuff - 2011 was AWESOME, 2012 was pretty good then things started getting a little wonky in 2013, last year was weird and this year was the absolute worst. The collections this year are inconsistent, uninspired and unimaginative. The Cork and Vine candles sounded good in theory but the scents were all repackages and rereleases. The Pumpkin collection were all repackages with Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake and Cranberry Pumpkin being the only standouts. The labels looked like someone went inside a bakery and took pics of food on their phone and called it a day..and what's with those waxy tomato looking pumpkins they used in the pictures? The only seemingly cohesive collection is the Harvest one and even that seems like random scents grouped together with no thought behind them. And that weird ombre collection just aggravates the hell outta me
  • First of all do we honestly need another Autumn and Sweater Weather?
  • Secondly, why the f*** is BEAUTIFUL DAY now a fall scent?! Cuz it as "apple" in it..get the f*** outta here with that nonsense!
  • Golden Cinnamon and Toasted Caramel Vanilla both sound new and exciting but sadly they're not. I just don't get the point of either of these scents

That said, the fall lineup just seem lacking and missing stuff. There's no cider scent, there's no doughnut scent, no pear scent. No Cranberry Woods, no Cider Lane/Warm Caramel Cider, no Autumn Day/Autumn Night, no Heirloom Pumpkin (there are wf bulbs online though and a 1wick of Pumpkin Carving). It's like BBW had a major case of brain farts and forgot about these scents.

And the weirdness just keeps continuing

Now we have a new 3layered pumpkin candle...only it's not new; it's the same 3layered candle from 2013 with Creamy Pumpkin and Roasted Pumpkin Butter..two scents that aren't in stores and haven't been in non-test stores since 2012 or '11. BBW newbies are creaming their panties over this candle, meanwhile we ol schoolers are scratching our heads in disbelief and confusion.

Similarly blowing up social media is the "new" Halloween candle - Spooky Vanilla. The notes are French vanilla, sugar crystals and fluffy marshmallow...yep you guessed it - Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow/Vanilla Bean Marshmallow. Not very spooky. BBW has been on a major vanilla/marshmallow kick lately so they jumped on the vanilla/marshmallow bandwagon and came up with this travesty enticing folks (particularly the newbies) with its cutesycutesy packaging. This is worse than that Trick or Treat mess last year. Again newbies are going nuts while the rest of us are facepalming holes into our skulls.

Then a mason jar only scent randomly appeared out of the blue - Mahogany and Birch. It sounds exciting and new... that is until you sniff it and read the notes. It's a watered down Mahogany Teakwood! Really BBW, Mahogany Teakwood, really?!

I don't get it BBW, I really don't get the things y'all do! Help me understand you! Seriously I just can't with yall lately, I've lost my ability to even! Real talk, if this fall is any indication of what the holiday lineup is gonna be like and beyond, we BBW'ers are in trouble!
