HOT MESS AWARD: Pumpkin Cinnamon Bun

Description: Treat yourself to the fragrance of a fresh from the oven pumpkin cinnamon bun with gooey cinnamon swirls and creamy vanilla icing

Oy vey!

So I bought this along side Pumpkin Sugared Doughnuts online. Both were an instance of the curiousity killing the cat. I was intrigued as to how this might smell as was the case with PSD. I assumed that it was gonna be a repackage of Cinnamon Frosting from winters past. Fortunately my assumption was wrong! So after my bad luck with PSD, I thought surely I'd have better luck with PCB. Not so much. I decided to lit it and I'm glad I did cuz I did not like it! This will going back to the store with PSD!

On cold throw it smelled amazing! Like Cinnamon Sugared Doughnuts on steroids! Rich, hearty, and gooey; it really smelled like a legit cinnamon bun! It was like walking past Cinnabon in the mall! I could smell a cakey CSD-esque bakery note, a little bit of warm cinnamon (on the lid I did smell just the tiniest hint of Cinnamon Frosting-like redhotness but I didn't smell too much of that from the wax) and a rich, drippy, gooey vanilla frosting. Just absolutely heavenly! No pumpkin whatsoever...thank GAWD!!! I dunno why BBW thinks that they can throw a bunch of cinnamon in something and call it a "pumpkin" scent like we're all stupid! But whatever! Anyhoo, based on the cold throw I was in love!

You're probably wonderin "Gee Bronzeblogger, PCB sounds amazing! If you love it so much, why are you returning it?"

All that deliciousness went away once I lit it! Instead I got this overwhelming burnt smell, like a delicious cinnamon bun that was left in the oven too long and burned to a blackened crisp! The bakery note smelled burnt and the vanilla icing smelled artificial, almost plastic-y! And then top of that, the bastard had the nerve to burn like crap. It took HOURS for the wax to pool out and it still didn't pool out completely or very deep. And the flames were just stubby and pitiful. Look at the picture above; that was after 3 hours! The only relatively good thing was the throw; it had a medium-strong "warm blanket" throw. Too bad it stank!

And apparently, as was the case with PSD, I must have gotten a bad batch cuz E'RYBODY else is lovin their PCB. PSD too for that matter. Very few people seem to be smelling what I'm smelling. And I feel like an asshole cuz I was hyping this candle up and it turned out to be a hot HOT mess! Honestly, I'm really getting pissed off! That's two candles...TWO..that I hate! Y'know what, I just can't, I'm over it!

SHOP 'N' GO: 2014 Fall Haul

So as you know, BBW has doin a lot of ridiculous unnecessary shit lately that kinda turned me off. However my obsession...ahem I mean love for BBW runs deep. And I love fall scents!!! I couldn't just not buy anything. So I decided to make the best of it get myself goodies. Y'know, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade...and add vodka!

So weeks ago there was $12 3wick flash sale. I was tempted and I totally caved in. I decided to get scents that wouldn't be in stores or wasn't in stores at the time. I bought...
  • Pumpkin Sugared Doughnut (BIIIIIIIGGGGGG MISTAKE)
  • Pumpkin Cinnamon Bun (possibly another mistake)
  • Autumn Night (this is my new jam!!!)
* Pumpkin Sugared Doughnut WILL be going back to the store and probably so will Pumpkin Cinnamon Bun

Then too long after months of anticipation and anxiety, there was finally a 2/22 sale...and there was much rejoicing in the land. My bf took a trip to Garden State Plaza and just on a whim, we decided to take to stroll to BBW and see what it was like. It was actually surprisingly well-stocked. It had the Pumpkin Café scents (sans PCD and PCB), the Artisan scents (sans Malted Pistachio Truffle and Chestnut Glazed Croissant) the Autumn Nights scents (sans Flannel and Fresh Balsam) So we decided to take advantage of the sale. My bf bought...
  • White Barn '13 version of Leaves (for his boss)
  • Autumn Nights
  • Spiced Pumpkin Cider

Later that day (which I think was the last day of the sale), I made an online order...

And that's it! A very small haul, especially compared to last fall's haul. There's honestly no more candles that I want. I still need to get some soaps and there are some wf bulbs that I want to get, but I think as far as candles, I'm done til the winter stuff comes out.

BLAST FROM THE PAST: Blueberry Pumpkin Patch

Products: candle
Area used in:  living room
Time Period: August -

Description: Blueberries fresh from the farm are the perfect match for ripe pumpkins in this delicious autumn blend

Missing note: praline

So as y'all know, this was a test scent back fall '12 that didn't go wide. At the time, Youtubers like LittleBalladeer, Tinadivalicious and Touchthefiretwice were hyping this one up so there were a lot of people listening to their reviews and calling to test stores to order (back in the good ol days when you could do that). It became such an underground hit that it (and Sweater Weather that was also testing at the same time and became a hit due to Youtubers) was released wide last year. I went back and forth with this one every time I smelled it in the store. Then I decided that I would be adventurous and just buy it and try it. So I've been holding onto all this time and I finally just recently started burning it every once in awhile to sorta get in the fall mood.

So performance-wise, it burned like a dream. There were no mushroom tops however it still burned perfectly and the wax was always deep and even. And I love the pretty blue wax color, so much better than that bland sperm-white color it was when it was testing. The wax would melt into this gorgeous cobalt/royal blue/indigo color, very pretty! And the throw was surprisingly strong! It didn't take long at all for it to completely fill my living room and the scent lingered for hours after I blew the candle out.

Now let's talk about the scent. I'm not a big fan of pumpkin scents, luckily you don't smell pumpkin in this. With that said, the name is really misleading. The "pumpkin" note comes across more bakery, almost bready/oatmeal-y/bran-y. A better name for this candle would've been (Spiced) Blueberry Muffin or Blueberry Granola/Oatmeal cuz that's really what it smells like. The blueberry is not fresh or juicy but rather very sweet and artificial smelling. It's like the dried blueberry you find in instant oatmeal or in a granola bar. Combined, the blend just comes across as very bakery. And on cold sniff for a second it smells like a kid's cereal - Trix! I keep expectin a a white rabbit in a disguise to come running into my living room. Or it kinda smells like Berry Berry Kix from the 90's (is that still around?)

Final thoughts, BBPP is aiight! I don't think it's anything extraordinary, certainly not a must have! I'll even go so far as to say that this scent was kinda unnecessary - why blueberries and pumpkin? Apple and pumpkin make more sense...well have that combo now as does Yankee (which smells better...gasp). Or better yet, cranberries and pumpkin..that would make more sense! It's autumnal and Thanksgiving-ish. Anyway, I don't regret buying it but I'm far from blown away and  don't miss that it's not here this year. Oh, for those of you do miss it, try Blackberry Bramble Tea...smells just like it!

HOT MESS AWARD: Pumpkin Sugared Doughnuts

Products: candle
Area used in:  living room
Time Period: none

Description: Fill your home with the fragrance of a freshly baked pumpkin doughnut made with autumn sugar and spice and everything nice

So when I first heard about this one, I didn't quite know what to think. Would it be some kind of reformulation of our beloved Cinnamon Sugared Doughnuts? Or would it be some weird replacement, like last year's Cider Donut? Or could it be a straight up repackage of Cider Donuts? I just didn't know! It didn't help matters that this scent has been an online exclusive so I couldn't sniff it for myself in the store. My curiosity got the best of me and I ordered it during that random one day only $12 3wick flash sale. When it finally arrived, I was on pins and needles..what was PSD gonna smell like?! Then I finally smelled it...BLEEGGGGHHHHH!!!!

So first of all, I'm happy to say that it is not a repackage or reformulation of last year's Cider Donut..thank goodness! It is however a reformulation of Cinnamon Sugared Doughnuts. Think of it as a mix of Cinnamon Sugared Doughnuts and Pumpkin Cupcake. It has the exact same baked cake doughnut base note of Cinnamon Sugared Doughnuts with the cinnamon sugar note toned down a bit. Add to that a slight earthy pumpkin-y note with the pumpkin pie spice (cinnamon/nutmeg/ginger) notes of Pumpkin Cupcake.

I know what y'all are thinkin.."Gee Bronzeblogger that sounds amazing as heck, what's up with the BLEGGHHHHH?! How could you possibly not like it?!" This is why...

On top of all of this yumminess, I kept smelling something cheesy..like toejam! It was like someone rubbed their finger between their toes and dipped it in sugar and spice. And I know I'm not imagining things cuz when my bf smelled, he said that it smelled cheesy to him too! I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt. I burned it not too long ago hoping I wouldn't get that cheesy feet smell once it was lit. Alas, I did! My apartment smelled like cinnamon and sweaty man feet; I had to open the window cuz it was making me feel nauseated.

I can only assume that I got a bad batch cuz it seems like I'm the only who smells toejam. Everyone else is like "ohhh this is sooo yummy!" "it's like pumpkin bread!" "It's like Cinnamon Sugared Doughnuts but better! and so on and so forth! Uuuumm, can I have what they're smellin!!!

I really wanted to like this one! It seemed like the perfect autumnal bakery scent. Plus everyone else is in love with it! And when I did burn it, the burn was impeccable and throw was perfection! Even now as I write this review, I keep smelling it hoping to second guess myself and smell what everyone else does. Sadly, I keep getting toejam!

Needless to say, I will bringing this SOB to the store and exchanging it for something I actually like as soon as I can!

WALK N' SNIFF: Pumpkin Cafe

So have stated in the past that a)I'm not a big fan of sweetey/bakery/gourmand scents. Moreover I loathe pumpkin scents with a virulent fiery white hot passion. Last year in their infinite wisdom BBW decided to combine the two creating an entire "pumpkin" inspired gourmand collections..which had everyone convulsing in fallgasmic pleasure...except me. This new trend has continued this fall with the "Pumpkin Café" collection. I decided that I would be open-minded and branch out, so I decided to give em all a huff..and some of em I wound liking and eventually buying!

Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin
I think this was the scent that turned me off to all things pumpkin-y. A few falls ago, my bf and I got a SCP 1wick 4oz, a decorative wf bulb and a room spray...and we hated them all. We didn't get thru half of the candle, I poured the oil from the bulb down the toilet but kept the bulb and we still have the room spray to this day. SCP just smells like a generic no-name overly-cinnamon'ed frozen pumpkin pie that someone left in the oven and it burned into a crispy black mess. It's cinnamon-y to the point of being nauseating and it just smells burnt. It doesn't smell like a bakery treat like the other scents in this line, so why is there? Moreover it's already in the We Love Fall collection..again why is it in this one?! This scent can retire, keep it strictly as body care and not as home fragrance.

Pumpkin Caramel Latte
This has been around for years..circa 2010 or 2011 and remains to this day one of the top all time favorite scents for fall. I've always avoided it like the plague lest I fall into a diabetic coma. However I tried it for the very first time last year and I found myself kinda liking it...and I didn't need insulin shots. However it was just too oeey-gooey sweet for me to ever want to get again. To simply say this scent is sweet is an understatement. It's like pure sugar in jar tumblr. There's no pumpkin or even spice notes and there's no latte/coffee notes...it's just rich intense mind-numbing, cavity-causing, sugar high-inducing caramel..with cream. It's frothy creamy milk with lots of rich gloopy ooey-gooey caramel.

Pumpkin Cupcake
This scent has been around for a couple of years and remains a fan favorite. In the absence of true pumpkin scents like Pumpkin Path/Pumpkin Carving/Heirloom Pumpkin, this was everyone's go to pumpkin scent. Honestly, I've never really cared for it. It's just the perfection amalgation of scents that I strongly dislike - sugary sweetness and spicy pumpkin. To me, it really does smell like Frosted Cupcake (one of my all time un-favorite scents) with added cinnamon and ginger.

Pumpkin Pecan Waffles
This was the runaway hit of fall last year; people were and are losing their minds over this scent. Frankly I didn't and still don't get the hype! There's no pumpkin or pumpkin spice! There's little to no nutty action. And the "waffle" note is generic smelling at best. There are theories that this is either a repackage of Toffee Glazed Popcorn or Creamy Nutmeg or a mix of both..honestly I dunno. I think people just like the idea of tis scent and kinda fool themselves into this thinking that they smell what they see in the notes and label. As popular as this scent was last year, this year it seems to be overshadowed by the other newer pumpkin scents. Apparently the first week of September is Waffle Week and BBW will be promoting this candle as well as body care with the same name. With that said, we shall see...

Pumpkin Caramel Swirl
*sigh Scents like this really piss me off cuz it's an obvious case of laziness. Let's not beat around the bush..this is a repackage of Cinnamon Caramel Swirl from last winter... a scent that had absolutely nothing to do with Christmas or winter time. And now it's back this fall as a "pumpkin" scent. Just because a scent has cinnamon in it DOES NOT make it a pumpkin scent! I repeat...CINNAMON DOES NOT MAKE IT A PUMPKIN SCENT!!! This could've been an opportunity for a truly new pumpkin scent but nope, BBW decided to be lazily and release this mess!

Spiced Pumpkin Cider
One of the 4 truly new scents in this collection. It seems to be replacing that old fall staple, Spiced Cider. When I first smelled it, I loved it! It was like Spiced Cider but 10x better! It just smelled more genuine and legit and less craftstore potpourri smelling. To me it smelled like Spiced Cider mixed with Pumpkin Apple with just a little hint of orange zest/rind. Then I watched Touchthefiretwice's new fall haul vid where he said that he thought it smelled like last year's Cider Donut ...and it was like "DAFUQ?!!!" Then I smelled SPC today..and I totally got it! It did kinda smell a bit like Cider Donuts and Apple Crumble! I think the reason it smells like that is sometimes BBW's "pumpkin" note comes across as bakery/grainy...like Blueberry Pumpkin Patch..it doesn't so much smell like pumpkin and blueberries as it does a blueberry muffin or granola. So I dunno what to think..sometimes I smell SC with PA and sometimes I smell CD. Either way, still smells pretty damn good to me!

Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow
This seems to be the runaway hit this fall! BBW kinda scared everybody with this scent. Whether it was going wide or not seemed to be the million dollar question. Further confusing people was it's appearance in the special Pumpkin coffret set. Finally it was announced that it would be making a wide release soon in the upcoming weeks...and there was much rejoicing in the land! Sadly Ive only gotten to smell this scent in the coffret. On cold throw it smells EXACTLY like a Little Debbie Oatmeal Pie! Like most of these "pumpkin" scents, it doesn't smell like pumpkin at all and there's no spice. Moreover, like Blueberry Pumpkin Patch, the "pumpkin" note comes off more bakery/grainy. It really does smell like an oatmeal cookie with marshmallow fluff. However, there's something about this scent that doesn't smell entirely new; I think this may be a repackage of something quite old. Ginger Vanilla? Vanilla Spice? Aromatherapy Vanilla Cinnamon? These are just guesses off the cuff, it's possible that this might actually be completely new. All I know is it smells damn good!

*ONLINE ORDER 'N' SNIFF
Pumpkin Sugared Doughnuts
So as y'all already know, PSD is an online exclusive. I was super intrigued so I bought it online blindly without a preliminary huff. And speaking of Cider Donuts, I thought for sure that PSD would be a repackage of that. I was relieved to hear that it supposedly smelled like a mix of Cinnamon Sugared Doughnuts and Pumpkin Cupcake..which doesn't sound half bad. So I ordered it, I received it and I huffed it..and yes it truly smells like Cinnamon Sugared Doughnuts and Pumpkin Cupcake. However here comes the bad part. On top of all of the goodness, I kept smelling something cheesy, like toejam. My bf even said the same thing. And apparently we're the only people in the entire world that smells this funkiness. I even burned it hoping the warm throw would be better..nope, I kept getting sweaty cheesy man feet! I'm guessin that I got a bad batch.

Pumpkin Cinnamon Bun
I had my doubts about this one! I thought for sure that this would be a repackage of that red hot mess from the past couple of winters, Cinnamon Frosting. However, BBW proved me wrong! It is AMAZEBALLS! Everybody is losing their shit over this candle, myself included. It smells legit like a cinnamon bun! It's like you're walkin past a Cinnabon nook in the mall food court! It's ridiculous how genuine this smells!

CANDLE SPOTLIGHT: Watermelon Lemonade (GP vers) LAST CANDLE FOR SUMMER

Products: candle
Area used in:  living room
Time Period: end of July- end of August

Description: Refresh your thirst for spring with this pleasing mixture of water, sparkling water and freshly squeezed Meyer lemons

This scent just refuses to die! We've seen this SOB 4 friggin times! It first came out last summer in the Summer Lakeside collection, then it came back this past spring both in the Sweet Shoppe collection and the Garden Party collection and now it's back  with a vengeance this summer in the Summer Sips! Everyone goes nuts for this damned scent and I never understood the hype! However I decided to be open-minded and this version of it when it was discounted during
SAS.

So, in my most humble opinion, each incarnation of WL smelled slightly different. The first original version smelled to me a bit more watery and icy, liked lemonade that sat too long and the ice melted. The Sweet Shoppe version smelled more tart and lemony with little to no watermelon action. This version I think smelled the sweetest and the most "genuine". I never smelled the Summer Sips versions but by all accounts it smells like the Garden Party version.

So performance-wise, it was pretty darn good. It had decent sized flames and the wax pooled out evenly and consistently despite not having mushroom tops. Throw-wise, it was pretty damn strong; it filled up my entire living room and  lingered for hours. Even the cold throw was strong, you get punched in the face with instant fragrance as soon you take off the lid.

So let's talk about the scent now. Real talk...this smells legit like watermelon Jolly Rancher candy. You can get this overwhelming sweet "watermelon" note...and I use quotation marks cuz it's a definitely watermelon but a very artificial one... think candy or syrup/liqueur. Then you get "lemon"..again artificial lemon like processed lemon juice in a grocery store or lemon flavored candy. Finally there is a slight bubbly effervescence in the background like Cranberry Pear Bellini or Sugarberry Spritzer.

Final thoughts...it's nice, it's cute. Is it as exciting as e'rybody makes it out to be? Ehh, not really. However, I can certainly see the appeal now. It's sweet and refreshing - it's a nice candle to have for summer!

WALK 'N' SNIFF: Artisan Collection

So this afternoon I went into The City to meet a friend for lunch but beforehand since I had some extra time, I decide to trek over to BBW since it was in the general area and get my huff on.

You know I hate to be a Negative Nancy but initially I wasn't too intrigued with this collection to begin with; as I have stated before I'm not particularly into foodie/bakery/gourmand type scents. I only wanted to sniff them for the sake of appeasing my curiousity. The one scent that I contemplated buying, I'm still unsure if I like it...but we'll get to that in a bit.

So let's begin...

Banana Nutmeg Bread Pudding
So this bad boy seems to be everybody's panty dropper. E'rybody has been goin nuts over this candle...except me. I don't really like banana scents but I still wanted to give it the benefit of doubt and see what everybody has been clamorin about. So to me, it doesn't smell at all like bread pudding. As a native New Orleanian, I have eaten my fair share of bread pudding and I know what it smells like..not like this scent! It does however smell like banana pudding...like homemade Bill Cosby pudding pop Jello pudding from a box. I'm hardepressed to say that I smelled nutmeg..maybe..a pinch? I got vanilla sweetened banana pudding with those Nilla vanilla wafer cookies . It's a nice pleasant scent and I can certainly see why everybody is creamin their panties for this one.

Blackberry Bramble Tea
This is another one that is getting everybody excited. Many have said that this smells like Blueberry Pumpkin Batch ..and after smelling it, I kinda have to agree. It's definitely not a legit repackage. However the blackberry note in this is veeeerrrry similar to the blueberry note in BPB. It also has that same unexplained earthiness that BPB has. You do get a nice genuine black tea note in the background...think sorta like London Calling but more like Raspberry Sun Tea and Peachy Tea from back in the day. If you liked BPB and are pissed that it's not back this year, BBT would make a nice replacement.

Sea Salt & Maple Popcorn
Another seemingly popular one. Now when I first heard about this one, I thought for sure it would be a repackage of Toffee Glazed Popcorn or Toffee Crunch. However too many people were sayin that this actually smelled like Summer/American Boardwalk. I thought to myself "No, BBW couldn't be that lazy." But alas, it does indeed smell like Summer/American Boardwalk, a repackage with a twist if you will. It's a little more salty and there is an apple note, I dunno if that's on purpose or not, but that apple note is definitely there. The only difference is that there is a bit of a sweet sticky maple-y note on top. So yeah think Salted Caramel mixed with Summer Boardwalk with a toned down apple note mixed with a little maple.

Bourbon Butterscotch
*sigh I'm just not a fan of BBW's caramel/toffee/butterscotch scents, never have been and never will be. They're just soooo cloyingly sweet and ooey-gooey; I'd fall into a diabetic coma after one sniff. However this one is that bad. It's very very similar to Hot Buttered Rum but 10x better! It's very rich and smooth and creamy with a little hint of a sweetened brown alcohol note. I dunno if this is a definite repackage of HBR but there's no denying that the two are quite similar.

Cayenne Caramel
Again I reiterate that I can't stand caramel/toffee/butterscotch scents. Like with the aforementioned  Bourbon Butterscotch, I was initially very leery to huff it lest it raise my blood sugar level to dangerous heights. However I was intrigued that cayenne was in this scent. It essentially smells like your standard BBW-ian take on caramel. And the cayenne note wasn't nearly as intense and peppery and piquant as I thought it would be; it's actually quite mild. This is basically Salted Caramel sans the salt with a bit of a peppery kick.

Wasabi Apple
So under normal circumstances, I love fresh green apple scents. However when I saw "wasabi" , honestly it scared me. Really?! Wasabi? Why?! However after smellin it, its not that bad. But it's not good either. It's not the fresh crisp juicy "Apple Crumble" true green apple note that I was hopin for. It's very much an artificial Jolly Rancher/Pucker's Sour Apple liqueur type scent. And that scary wasabi isn't that bad, not nearly as intensely spicy as I thought it would be. However, this combination just smells too close to that horrid God awful Green Apple Orchard candle. And just like that hot mess, WA just smells off and wrong! I mean it's nice to have an apple scent without the typical overdone cinnamon and/or caramel notes you get in fall but I think wasabi was a wrong choice. They should've just used something like honey or lavender or thyme or basil..I dunno....

Vanilla Chai
And lastly, the one candle that I was genuinely interested in and considered buying...ironically it wound up being the candle I disliked the most. I will say that this truly smells like real legit genuine chai spices - cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, black pepper, ginger, cardamom, etc. However that's what I disliked about this scent - those spices are KILLER! They're waaaayyy too strong and overpowering. And there was something sharp in that blend that assaulted my nose alllll the wrong way. It was hoping that it would more creamy/milky/frothy, like a spicier Pumpkin Caramel Latte sans the caramel. It doesn't so much smell like a drink but just a pile of the spices themselves. As far as spicy scents go, I personally think that Kitchen Spice and Creamy Nutmeg smell better than this. I may have to resniff this one  just to make sure, but I'm almost certain that I lean towards disliking this one.

Unfortunately there were none of the so-called "unicorn" candles.. Malted Pistachio Truffle (which supposedly smells like a nuttier version of Mint Chocolate) and Chestnut Glazed Croissant (which supposedly smells like a sweeter French Baguette). Supposedly these two will be appearing in store in the next couple of weeks. If you don't feel like waiting, they are both available on Evil-bay..no surprise there!

So yeah in conclusion, as a whole this collection wasn't so bad. They were (for the most part) kinda nice but none of them grabbed ahold of me and made wanna buy em. Frankly there are far more better fall candles coming out that are truly worth my attention.
